Super Robot Taisen stream Nov. 19

Super Robot Wars is old now. The sheen the GP01 shooting a Doublas M2 has worn off. Sad

BUUUUUUT, all that said, it is worth appreciating that Super Robot Wars is one of...well, maybe even the very last major console series that still relies primarily on sprites. I don't doubt they'd be able to change the cast list more dynamically and change the graphical style more often if they went full Unreal Engine on us. Maybe we'd even be fine with that. But it'd be the end of an era for sure.

I think thats the most important one, i mean the series always depended on fans. its a niche series, it got some high sales at some points but it is still a niche series, i always thought about if the series is actually gaining new fans or is it just the one who grew with the classics who are the one driving the sales.

Gundam probably keep some fresh blood in the fanbase but that also fade since of course not everyone is gonna like all the new titles or is a fan of the whole Gundam franchise, Casual is the keyword here, that goes for all the other new Robots shows.

Add to that how we are living a really fast life now, its hard to hold the new generation attention for too long.

ArcSys did a it's-3D-but-looks-like-sprites style for Guilty Gear Xrd (and maybe DB as well?). I'd be okay with an SRW trying that. Provided it's done well, of course. haha

Yep DragonBall is using the same technology as Guilty Gear Xrd games. one can hope Banpresto works with them and we get a dream SRW

The technology is Unreal 4. Not so much exclusive to ArcSys.

Yeah but who in banpresto knows how to use Unreal engine? I mean... look at what happened with New Gundam breaker

Guys, I don’t know why you all suddenly want essentially Super Robot Spirits 2, but I seriously doubt it would even be a blip on the franchise at this point, much less the thing that saves it.

Nothing can save it. Its just something thats become more and more niche as the years have gone on. Its not just that the games havent been as goodnas before but that theres just much more competition and options when it comes to peoples entertainment. Especially with the strong foothold mobages have gotten the last 5 years.

Its the same for most old anime and games as well aside from things like Final Fantasy, DQ, etc.

Even Gundam itself as a whole has become just a shadow of its former self. The Gundam franchise has been steadily fading away the last couple of years.

Divers, Try, Reco and IBO were all pretty much flops. Dvd' BD, Gunpla and video game sales have also been poor the last couple of years as well. Especially with failures like Gundam Versus and especially New Gundam Breaker that was so bad it turned into a spectacle droping to like 90% off in its first week.

Ironically the only thing making serious money the last few years were the Arcade Profits from the Extreme Versus games. Theyve been out profiting the Gunpla, BD,Music etc sales on a huge scale.

Its basicly entered the rut it was in the late 90s until it was saved by Gundam SEED.

Nep, I know you like to talk out of your ass a lot and I really avoid trying to speak to you directly, but arcades are NOT the main source of income for Gundam, they do bring in income for the video games, but Origin and Unicorn are very popular. Origin anime is VERY popular and was shown in theatres like Unicorn and the model kits are selling well too with the home releases. Narrative will also likely sell well too because of its relation to Unicorn and that it is written by the same writer, Fukui. Gundam has its ups and downs, the 90s weren't exactly the best time for it either with Gundam X and Turn A did not get good ratings but it was likely due to Gundam fatigue, which might be the case here too. Gundam Versus and New Breaker were bad, but let's not forget that Gundam games do not have the best reputation either, PS2 and even PS3 had their share of very bad games, remember Crossfire and 0079 Side stories? Bad games are nothing new yet you act like the sky is falling because you just like to jump on the bandwagon to complain.

And believe it or not, IBO S1 average home video sales did better than the 1st Build Fighters anime in home media sales. S2 did not. G-Reco, despite the 2nd half being crap, actually sold not too far differently than the 1st Build Fighters. G-reco's model kit sales were ass, but the Tomino name drove some of the older fans to buy the show, and despite its bad story, the visuals about show people actually liked.
