SRW Comprehensive Running Commentary
I just ordered UX so I'll play it soon.

Unfortunately I can pretty much guarantee I'm not going to do a detailed summary like I did for L. It's too much work and every time I do it, it starts to sap my will to play the game. I will try to give some indication of what's going on, particularly with the originals, but a full story summary is too much.

I've been enjoying reading your discussions, kern, it's like a mini-blog in thread form. Thanks for keeping at it!

Finally got my UX today so I'll start it in the next couple of days. Progress might not be that fast since I'm working on my super famicom blog also.

Also is the discord still around? Somehow I lost all my discord channels and the only invite I saw was expired.

I can confirm the discord still exists. I think it'd be ideal if someone sent you an invite link? (I dunno who would be the best option to do that though)

Super Robot Taisen UX
3DS, 3/14/2013
===================

Moving into 2013, and a new console. This seems to be the spiritual successor of the DS games but now we get voiced scenes, and 3D effects but I can't use those for very long before it hurts my head.

The series list has some tired entries (Macross F, Dancougar Nova, SEED Destiny). There are a few series that haven't appeared in a long time (Tobikage, Dunbine) or are voiced for the firs t time (Fafner, Linebarrel). The new series are Demonbane, the Fafner movie sequel, Wings of Rean, Virtual On Hatsune Mike version, Gundam 00 movie sequel, SD Gundam Sangokuden, Mazinkaiser SKL, and HEROMAN. No Getter.

The system looks similar to L, with a few tweaks.

Prologue

A bunch of different people hear the same voice telling them to gather at the beginning place. Dunbine is actually at the conclusion, with Marvel, Shou, and the other people dying in the final episode fight, but they hear the voice as they die. There's also Macross Frontier, Tobikage, SD Gundam Three Kingdoms, and finally Fafner, which you actually get to play. The Gundam SEED Destiny people are around, although it's hard to know where the story for that series is. The Fafner enemies went after poor Lunamaria but she managed to kill a few. I weakened the Festum with Shinn and then finished it off with Kazuki so I could get the secrets flag.

The originals come in just for a bit to eliminate the Festum.

Do I get a choice of main character?

I'm looking forward to your discussion on UX since its one of the more limited SRW games to play (no thanks to Nintendo's stupidity of region locking the 3DS). I'm interested in the story here and how certain characters interact with others.

Linebarrel is new too. UX uses the original manga instead of the fucking shit anime adaptation.

You have a single OG - Arnie. There's also Jin, who you get for a few early scenarios, Richard, the original pilot for the Orphes, and Saya. That's about it. Mind, between Act 2 and 3, Arnie undergoes some... Changes. He's a bit of a meme in Japan. (There are a shitload of memes about UX in Japan, mostly related to the insane amount of little interactions.)

UX is fucking amazing so I hope you enjoy it.

EDIT: oh, yeah, and - Macross F's movies plot debut in UX, Demonbane is the anime adaptation (albeit they actually mention some of the things from the source like Metatron - you just don't get them), and Dancouga Nova... Well, it's a bit different in UX. Normally I'd complain about it not having plot, because it's had plot two goddamn times and L barely even had that, but UX's version of events is pretty damn awesome so it gets a pass. (Z3, on the other hand...)

Seed is post-series.

Seed is post-series.

Also shows up midway through the game. Strike Freedom and IJ come kind of late.

In exchange, you get lots of Fafner stuff early. I'm a bit miffed that the Mark Destiny is prologue only until the midgame, and Shinn Asuka is forced into the Mark Impuse for a while, but that's just how it goes.

Stage 1

Here comes the main character Arnie, who is a hopeful pilot trying to make his name in the world. He's part of a new test unit along with Jin. Meanwhile the HEROMAN plot is starting -- this is a series that Stan Lee(!) came up with. A scientist has managed to contact outer space, receiving the same "gather at the beginning place" message but also aliens who are going to destroy the world. Fortunately HEROMAN, Arnie, and Jin can take care of them pretty quickly.

The president then sends a request to UX (Unknown...Exstrikers?) who seem to be other originals even though they're palling around with Celestial Being at the moment.

Any suggestion on route splits I should take? I know you're supposed to play this multiple times; I probably won't but I guess it's not out of the question. Generally I take the route splits that have the new series or at least series that haven't been overused.
