70s/80s Super Robot Shows
#51
Just finished watching Daimos, Orguss and Baldios TV/Movie the shows were really great but sadly for Baldios it got cancelled with episode 31 being the last official episode Sad at least the film manages to fix and wrap things up.

The Discotek release of Baldios is very good even with all the artificial grain from the original Japanese BD and if you can forgive them for the "upscaled" last few episodes (same thing on JP BD's) namely 30 (really low quality),32,33 and 34.

This topic has been informative to read. Several of my favorites have popped up in here (e.g. Godmars).

One idea that I feel is worth revisiting: Sometimes, SRW takes a show and really does make it better, and Machine Robo is the best example of this, IMO. I've tried watching the actual anime, and it's just ... not great. But then Impact and MX take Rom and make his introduction badass. (Credit to Kern for originally alerting me to that.)

I think that SRW managed to do justice for some anime shows gone bad like Machine Robo which is one of the highlights of shows SRW managed to represent light years better in the game compared to the actual anime.

Other examples can be Nadesico TV and Prince of Darkness especially what they did in W & V which gives us a better version of PoD. I didn't watch the entire run of Cross Ange but from what I hear it seems better in SRW.

Alpha 3 gives us a better version of Shinji (Evangalion).

That's all I can think about I'll leave others to mention what got better in SRW.

One of the biggest examples of SRW turning things around is Seed Destiny as was shown in SRW Z.

Although there the very few times that not even SRW can save some shows... like Gundam Age... or incomplete series like Evangelion Rebuild...

Seed Destiny and Machine Robo are prime Examples but as much as i wouldn't call Tobikage Anime bad, its not nearly as cool as SRW made it to be.
Then we have Dancouga but thats a whole can of troubles to open so casually.

I may catch some flack for this but, are you guys sure you aren't overhyping Voltes because of its influence and legacy in the Philippines or by virtue of it being the first show you watched? To me it just felt like a remixed Combattler that merges the first and second halves of its show together and uses the same set of villains instead of bringing in a new batch from their home planet. Of course I watched both shows a while ago so I could be off in my remembrance of the shows.

1. There's a guy here literally named Voltes-V
2. In my place, Voltes V comes first, and there's no such thing as Combattler V.

So, yeah, maybe that.

Not sure who you're referring to because prior to your post there were exactly two people who posted any kind of opinion on Voltes V (me and one other person who admitted a bias towards it). You are free to give rational counter-arguments about it and any other shows.

Different opinions are of course welcomed and appreciated by people who don't have the time and patience to watch these older shows.
