Episode 21 is just a flashback episode showing how Walkure was formed. And it's confirmed that
Mikumo is indeed a clone created specifically to combat the Var, having been 'born' 3 years prior to the start of the series
. Meanwhile, there's already a shift on Roid being the main bad guy after all.

Just saw 21-22.
21: Nothing major happened, but was nice we actually got back story for the more important Walkure girls.
22:...........Is this like the first time in 22 goddamn episodes that Hayate and the vocaloid have really interacted with each other at all? Because I can not remember any scene at all so far.
Hate the fact that Hayate's Var problem was resolved rather simply (LOVE!) and the way they off Cassim was a total disappointment.
Ok, so I like this week;s episode because Mikumo acted NORMAL for once, and it's a moe moment for her.
Also we learn that she is the Star Singer Roid's talking about, implying she was a Windemerean cyborg. My guess is that she was built specifically to overcome Heinz's Song Energy and replace him as the new weapon to control the Var
So Mikumo's a weapon made by the Protoculture that was converted into a cyborg by Lady M (essentially a Sharon Apple/Miku Hatsune hybrid). NUNS knew the Protoculture Ruins can be used to amplify and weaponize song energy, so Hayate's dad, whose a secret agent in Windermere, was given orders to bomb the place, but he veered it off course to minimize human casualties.
Oh, and they are REALLY hinting that Lady M is Minmay and plotted the whole thing. Also Do You Remember Love playing in the background in the final scene with Hayate and Freyja talking together before the final battle.
I was laughing when the show talked about the Song Energy's use as a weapon by being presented as Delta Waves that affects sleep and consciousness. As someone who has personally experienced listening to Delta Waves via Brainwave Entrainment, I can assure you Delta Waves don't mess up your head. It does gives you a tingly, headache-like feeling, however. And afterwards, it helps you sleep.
So for the first time in the franchise (least from what I can remember), the main protagonist chooses a singer over the officer. Doesn't help the fact that the whole series ended rather quickly while leaving some parts unresolved. They try tying it with the other series, but nothing good came out of it. Worse, as I can't even remember much of the plot, details how forgettable Macross Delta really is.
The final battle was totally within SRW territory in terms of scenery. It reminded me of the final fight in SRW D with everyone falling under Perfectio's influence until EVE from Megazone 23 sang "Himitsu Kudasai", followed by Basara's "Try Again", to snap everyone out of it. I can expect when Delta joins SRW (it will, since Walkure's popular among the Japanese fans), it will be a similar scenario.
And yes, I still hate Walkure as a whole. I never really get into their songs and their repeated use makes it worse. Also, "Do You Remember Love?" is now the most overused song in Macross history, no wonder Minmay's VA hated it.
Basically if you happen to enjoy the likes of Idomaster, Love Live, etc., and a hardcore one at that, then you will dig into Macross Delta because of Walkure alone. Other than that, not much.
I will give a video review of this sometime this week.
Walkure was one of the best things out of Delta, also do you remember love is pretty iconic so it will show up in almost all macross animes
Him choosing the singer isn't that big a deal/first time ever deal, at least not since the original as far as I recall. In Frontier it was Sheryl, but Ranka was also a singer. In 7 there was no one, Basara was a free spirit. Zero I forget, there wasn't raelly any other choice either as far as I recall.
Even here in Delta it wasn't a big deal because since day 1 it was clearly going to be Freja. She and Hayate had all the development, screen time, and bonding in pretty much every single scene. Mirage? She got very little to nothing other then being portrayed as a third weel. She had her moments with Hayate, but nothing major. Part of the reason even her actress complained about how Mirage was treated.

Actually, it's better to see the triangle in the terms of "older vs younger" and even then the trend is still broken. Either way, Delta stopped being interesting to me by Episode 6. The plot had nothing that I felt invested in, and pretty much ALL of the characters felt like they had potential but I could never shake the feeling that I had seen the exact same cast of characters somewhere else and done better. Seriously, to be boring and make me feel like I've seen large chunks of this before in a better story makes this a definite failure to me.
Well, not exactly, because when you consider their life spans, Freya would technically be considered older. She at most has 15-20 years left to live unless they BS smoething like Frontier's "VAJRA SING WITH THEIR TUMMIES". At her current age she's probably considered 20-25. She said at the start the village elder told her to go get pregnant and married already.
As to the show, overall I personally thought it was one of if not THE worst macross series. Hayate and Freja's chemisty was the only part I really liked, and some of the side characters. But overall, the plot was stupid, the pacing was terrible, and everything felt like a cop out in the end. Yes, all this bad blood that was building is automatically washed under the rug just to stop Lloyd. Though I already felt the show was going to take a turn back when we got the old PVs for it.
Me: Oh goddammit, why are the antagonist looking like Zeon Knight Nazi's?
Everyone Else: You're an idiot, shut up
>Cue the actual series, and what do you know, the Windmere's entire schtick was "mah Windmerian master race is the perfect race and chosen people of the protoculture gods".
Gee, what a surprise...... >.>
ALso another reason the show probably ended up bad, is that because originally, Kawamori never wanted the Valkryies and such. He originally just wanted a show to focus entirely on Walkure. It was ovbious since the first episode, but basically he literally wanted to make his own SymphoGear clone. Hell, the first original teaser images we got were only Walkure itself, no actual plans. Unfortunately for him, the higher ups would never allow that and he had to have the focus on Valks to sell toys. Which is probably why there's so little real action in Delta cmopared to Frontier and the other series.
I would have liked it better had the Walkure girls been the pilots at least.
