I'm planning to get a PS4 during the holidays. I have some queries:

1. What's the average size of the patches for PS4 games? (I heard that one game had a 10GB patch!)
2. What's the average install size of a PS4 game?
3. What are the pros and cons of the various current and upcoming PS4 models?

I can tell that some games are having bigger updates than others.
The Division has 10 GB updates, but that's an online game. To be expected.
SRWOG The Moon Dwellers somehow has a 6GB update, because they're adding movies for the archives.
Other games probably have lower size for updates. Not like every game has mega-updates.

You planning to get digital games or physical? If you live by digital games, you might want to consider bigger HDD space. I myself bought the 1TB version because I know PS Plus will give me tons (of tiny games, currently).
The average install size seems to be below 50GB per big game. Not sure how much an individual physical game take up space, though.

There are also free games you might want to consider, like Blacklight Retribution (for your FPS fix, game kinda dead, though), Dead or Alive 5 Core Fighters (for your fighting fix), Star Trek Online, and a bunch of others. Since all of those are (obviously) digital, bigger HDD space is always better.

I'm no expert about those new PS4 models, but it seems PS4 Pro is the best bet if you want power. But unless you like the price, the original PS4 works just fine for me. Besides, I don't have 4K TV and the design of that PS4 Pro is ugly af. Big Grin
Just check your budget.

Edit: Here comes PSVR!

Thanks for the reply, Andy.

My internet speed isn't so great so I'll be sticking to physical discs and I prefer offline play. Right now, the games I'm prioritizing are Uncharted 4, Shadow of Mordor GOTY, and Arkham Knight GOTY.

Great offline games you pick there. Except maybe Mordor. Big Grin
So it's safe to say you won't be joining PSPlus?
But still, PS4 without online feels like only half the experience.

Great choices. Though unlike Andy, I'd recommend going straight with the PS4 Pro if this is gonna be your first PS4 unit. Also comes with a 1TB drive off the box.

My bro-in-law has PS+ so I get to try out and/or play any game he gets from PSN. The only online play I truly enjoyed was Mass Effect 3's multiplayer.

It's either the Slim or Pro. I'll wait for reviews about the latter after it comes out on November.

Probably easier with the slim. The Pro is really only for 4K TV users, which aren't common, especially in Japan. A lot of JP users and devs pretty much thing that all true development will remain on PS4/XBone, and that the Neo/S will just get upscaled ports from them. Mainly beacuse the PS4 has just barely gotten a decent installed user base, and no dev is going to focus on a new system no one ones yet, or is willing to upgrade to.

Yeah, for those already with a PS4 there's really not much incentive into getting the Pro/Neo.

Sony could've had me if they made the Final Fantasy XV Luna Edition a PS4 Pro bundle but they didn't.
