Difficulty Burps
#11
It's a trend in alot of games as new features are added and games are just made easier for the most part. I've been replaying some PSX games in the SD Gundam G Generation series and boy are they alot tougher, especially the first and somewhat the second. The first has no Next/Extra Step when you destroy a unit, so you can only kill one unit per turn on your stage, and both the first and second were setup like SRW where you play through stages 1-42+ without being able to stop and grind with replays of stages, so money and experience has to be balanced. No team attacks, no pilot skills, heck, the first game doesn't even have tension levels for automatic crits... but I'm loving it! The difficulty makes my winning and working towards breaking the game with super units built as early as possible so much more fun.

The early SD Gundam G Generation games have those sprawling maps. That is where I get a lot of the difficulty. Well, that, and having to switch between ground and air maps on the same stage. Easy to get mauled if you're not used to that style of play.

*raises hand*

He did that to me in A(dvance). I think I still managed to finish the map, but most of my troops were toast.

Except SRW has extreme outliers early in its franchise.  Take, for example, Compact 1.  It has a quite difficult Scene 2, but after you kill Anaveil Gato and his nuke launching nightmare, the whole game is ludicrously easy.

EX is another very easy early game, and Shin is pretty easy for the most part, once you figure out how to protect those trucks.

Or, on the other route, to protect Trider G7 from the horrible threat to its existence known as Geardolas.

Does "EX is easy" count it's secret hard final stage?

... took me this long to realize that this topic is in SRW section, and thus, I posted out of topic. ^^;

Anyway, SRWAP, the stage with Daitarn's boss. You can't beat that guy unless you know he's coming (he spawns after you beat another boss) and you reserved everything you got.

Well, AP isn't fair anyways.

But if you DO know he's coming, he's easy.  He can tank well thanks to Prevail and he hits hard, but his only way to deal damage is "one at a time", he has innate Regen but it's not actually all that much, he'll never move (and thus never attempt to reclaim good territory) and there is no time limit.

And that messes with me! I mean, look at the rest of the classic series, especially in its non-Complete Box versions, and EX comes off as really not fitting in the (extreme) difficulty curve.
