SRW Comprehensive Running Commentary
In theory, I will replay the game on EX Hard and take the routes I didn't take, trying to get the SR points for the new stages and do the regular ending. Then a third play on Special will clean up any SR points I missed and get Platinum. But I don't know if I will ever actually do this.

If I ever had to focus on a single SRW to replay, I'd do it in UX.

Three runs to get all the secrets, maybe four if your game feels like hardballing you, but damn it feels good when you stack secrets and suddenly secret characters are saving other secret characters and having all secret conversations about how there's no way it should have been possible to get all of them (which actually happens when you get a specific set of three that are impossible in a single run).

I concur. Secrets this time are pretty satisfying for both gameplay reasons (combined attacks and equippable skills locked behind them) and plot reasons (tidbits of conversations added here and there, reactions from bosses with metaphysical affinities).

Things like how

if you do JUSTICE ROUTE and save Lu Bu, and then save Ishigami, and Lu Bu helps save Ishigami?

Those type of things are great.

Or when before the final mission you have every secret character having a conversation about having been saved by their doom and there is Patrick slightly perplexed (which comes from the fact he survived in the movie and he survives even in the game, you just don't get him without saving Andrei too, leaving him the odd man out of a dozen dead men/women walking)

To be absolutely technical,

Master Therion also survives. He just gets stuck in a void that he can't escape from with Etheldreda. Which is what he wanted in the first place (well, ok, the "with Etheldreda" bit's just a nice bonus, but still.) so he's fine with it.

Your secret involves him getting temporarily removed so he can get one last potshot in against the time loop, the reason he wanted out of everything in the first place.

Yes, but i didn't mention dead semigods-books walking! Tongue

And by the way,

do you remember if Ishigami was one of the half dozen characters that remains behind at the end when you don't have all secrets? Because i can't remember if he gets to return if alive anyway or not and no convenient saves to simply try

Stage 33
SR: Clear the map without Hiryu Kai taking any damage.

They dip into this "don't let the ship take damage" well frequently. It's not that hard; as usual with these kind of missions you just need to identify the enemies that are actually heading towards the ship and make sure to take them out first.

Stage 34
SR: Defeat all Maskleons before you lower the Vegalion's HP below 20000. Also, all enemies will retreat when the Sailion's HP is lowered below 22000.

This is the mid-@2 Ibis part, where Sleigh appears again. As in @2, Sleigh is tsundere and won't join the team, so you have to beat her up instead. Since there's no turn limit the SR point is very basic.

The Kustos(?) also show up here from @2 to protect Ibis and Irui. Of course we'll be fighting them at some point near the end of the game, but for now they chase away Sleigh.

Stage 35
SR: Eliminate all Youkijin before they get a chance to damage the Hiryu Kai.

Another "protect the ship" SR point.

Stage 36
SR: Defeat every enemy except Ventus, Glacies and Umbra within 4 turns.

This is the last Earth route stage, where we finally reach the North Pole and fight the Ruina units. I remember now that Grakies joins you in D; judging from all the comments on the Nicovideos it sounds like she does in this game as well. The SR point is easy; these SR points on the whole are much easier than Z2. I don't have any "move again" abilities on anyone but I completed this SR point in 3 turns, and I've only done fairly minimal upgrades.

Also Ganlong. He was fucking annoying in @3 so I'm not happy to see him here again. >Sad

It's Custos, latin for " warden ". It would have been more recognizable if used correctly, as custos is singular and the nominative plural is custodes.

Stage 37
SR: Defeat 6 Jinrais by turn 8.

This is where Fighter Roar gets his mech back, along with Shoko. The SR point takes a little work but not too much. When that G-BUNKARAN shows up with its own theme song it's silly, but at least he can help you take down the Jinrais.

The second part of the stage is easy because you get your whole team against the remaining Jinrais.

Stage 38
SR: Defeat 30 enemies within three turns.

The wiki made it seem like this would be hard, but compared to the Z2 SR points this is a walk in the park.

This is more about Irui. As I said before, they did a lot of work to enhance this part of the plot -- bringing in Kukuru, connecting it with the Ryuuohki, and with Baral/Irui.

Stage 39
SR: Defeat all Lions before Hugo has an encounter with Albero.

The SR point is in the first part of the stage and not hard as long as you keep Hugo back far enough he doesn't get attacked by Albero.

The second part has a ton of grunts so you can use it to get a lot of the trophies but I didn't bother with that for now.
